RealityBites - The National Healthcare Conversation. Is tough love the only thing that can save general practice? Will demand management and telehealth save the NHS?

RealityBites - The National Healthcare Conversation is a weekly podcast focussing on healthcare and UK health and care services between Ben Gowland and Joe Tibbetts. There is no doubt that GPs are under threat. Recruitment is not even managing to replace natural wastage and this at a time when more not fewer GPs are needed.

This week's podcast - the second in a series of three  - asks if tough love can keep GPs at the front line of the citizen's relationship with health services and just how tough it has to be. If many GP practices closely resemble corner shops are we really ready to accept the move to a model more akin to a supermarket? Can demand management and telehealth really make a difference to the escalating costs of our healthcare system?

Ben Gowland is the CEO of NHS Nene Clinical Commissioning Group and formerly Director of Service Improvement and Quality at Croydon Health Services NHS Trust. Joe Tibbetts is the publisher of HealthCare Innovation Daily - an Information Daily online title, and is founder of the INSOMNIACS group on LinkedIn.

RealityBites - The National Healthcare Conversation - is published each Tuesday morning and is accessible and downloadable from the front page of the Information Daily.
